The Fundamentals and Practices of Music

online free courses

Boethius was an ancient Greek composer who wrote The Fundamentals of Music. It was composed around 500 AD. It represented the Classical authority in music during the Middle Ages. While the Greek writings that Boethius based his work on were not read until the 15th century, the text reveals the mathematics behind tuning systems, the moral character of certain modes, and the history of plainchant.

Elements of Music

Music is made up of various elements. These elements are what give songs their soul, emotion and character. The most important aspect of music is human connection. Music can transport listeners to another place. As an artist, it is your duty to observe the way these elements work together and use that knowledge to make your music better.

Harmony

Harmony can be described as a relationship between musical tones. The human ear can recognize this relationship. This concept can also be expressed in simple scientific methods. This relationship was first demonstrated by Pythagoras. He strung a string, then picked it. He determined the distance between notes by simply dividing each note with an arithmetical formula.

Pitch

The fundamental frequency or lowest frequency that a musical note can be heard is called the "basic frequency". This frequency is recognized as a specific pitch by the ear. This frequency is represented as a displaystyle (also known under Hertz).

Rhythm

Rhythm refers to the organization of musical elements. It occurs in accompaniment and melody and is expressed in a combination of short and long durations, known as measures. A song with an uncomplicated meter sounds, for example, straight. But a song with a complex meter sounds "swung” or "changed".

Texture

Different textures can be achieved by musicians using a variety techniques. One such technique is resonation. This technique creates sound by changing the density of different vocal types. Texture is determined by many factors, such as the melody's dynamics and size, as well as its articulation. Rhythmic complexity, or the variety of different rhythms in the accompaniment, is another important factor. Music doesn't have one sound.

Articulation

Music performance relies on articulation. There are many types of articulation and each has its own characteristics. These characteristics include loudness and timbre as well as intonation and envelope characteristics. The most important characteristic of articulation, is its length. This determines the duration of a note. String players may accent a note with a harder or faster playing speed, which can produce a louder sound.

What is vocational education?

Vocational Education, which is an educational system that prepares high school students for jobs after college or high school, provides them with training in specific skills required for a job (e.g. welding). You can also get on-the job training through apprenticeship programs. Vocational Education is different than general education. It focuses on specific careers and not learning broad knowledge for the future. Vocational education does not prepare students for university, but it helps them find work after graduation.

Vocational education may be provided at all levels of schooling, including primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, universities, technical institutes, trade schools, community colleges, junior colleges, and four-year institutions. You can also find specialized schools such a culinary arts school, nursing school, law school, medical schools or dental schools. Many of these provide both academic instruction and practical experience.

Over recent decades, there have been significant investments made in vocational education by many countries, including Australia, Denmark (Finland), Germany, Ireland and Japan. However, it is not clear if vocational education is effective. Some critics claim it is not effective in improving students' employability. Others argue that it helps them prepare for life after school.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 47% of American adults possess a postsecondary certificate, or degree related to current occupation. This figure is higher for those with more education. 71% (25-29) of Americans have a bachelor's level or higher and work in fields that require a postsecondary degree.

The BLS reported in 2012 that almost half of all adults had some type of postsecondary credential. About one-third of Americans held a two-year associate degree, while about 10 percent held a four-year bachelor's degree. One out of five Americans held a master's degree or doctorate.

The median annual salary for people with a bachelor's was $50,000. This compares to $23,800 for those who don't have a degree. The median income for those with advanced degrees was $81,300.

For those who did not complete high school, the median wage was only $15,200. Earn $13,000 per annum for those with less high school diplomas.
